Why compress audio to 100KB?

A file size of 100KB is incredibly small. Most normal MP3 songs are around 3000KB to 5000KB. You usually only need to shrink a file down to 100KB if you are building a website and need a tiny sound effect that loads instantly, or if you are dealing with very strict upload limits on a web form.

Because the target size is so small, this tool is really designed for very short audio clips, sound effects, or short voice alerts.

How we make the file so small

To hit the 100KB target, our tool has to compress the audio quite heavily. It does this by drastically lowering the bitrate and converting the audio to mono if it is currently in stereo.

Just upload your audio clip, and we will calculate the maximum possible quality we can use while still keeping the final file under 100 kilobytes. Keep in mind, if you upload a full 3 minute song, the audio quality is going to sound very muffled because we have to throw away a lot of data to make it fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my compressed file sound so bad?

If your original file is very long, hitting 100KB requires extreme compression. To fix this, you should try trimming the audio down to just a few seconds before compressing it.

Is 100KB enough for a full song?

Absolutely not. 100KB is tiny. A standard 3-minute pop song at 100KB would sound like it is playing through a broken telephone underwater. This size is strictly for short sound effects or UI clicks.

Does it convert stereo to mono?

Yes. To save as much data as possible, the tool merges the left and right audio channels into a single mono track. This instantly cuts the file size in half without lowering the bitrate further.
