Why did it give me half the BPM I expected?
Some genres like dubstep or trap are felt in half-time. If you expect a song to be 140 BPM, the detector might output 70 BPM. Both numbers are mathematically correct and will mix perfectly fine.
Does it work on songs without drums?
It is much harder, but yes. The algorithm looks for any rhythmic pulse or transient spike. However, ambient or classical music without a steady beat will often confuse the detector.
Will this detect changing tempos?
This tool provides a single average BPM for the entire file. If the song drastically speeds up or slows down in the middle, the number provided will just be the mathematical average of the whole track.
