Why check sample compatibility?
When you are building a beat, you usually grab samples from a dozen different sources. You might have a kick drum from Splice, a bassline from an old vinyl record, and a synth loop from a random sample pack.
If those samples do not match in musical key or rhythmic timing, your song will sound completely chaotic. This tool helps you figure out if two different samples will actually sound good together before you waste hours trying to force them to fit.
How to test your samples
Upload the two samples you want to test. Our engine will analyze the BPM (tempo) and the musical key of both files. It will then calculate exactly how much you need to stretch or pitch-shift the second sample to make it match the first one perfectly.
If the gap is massive, like shifting a vocal up 8 semitones, we will warn you that the sample will probably sound extremely unnatural and robotic if you try to force it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work with drum loops?
Yes. For purely rhythmic drum loops, the tool focuses entirely on BPM compatibility, ignoring the key, to tell you exactly how much time-stretching is required.
What happens if the keys do not match?
If you try to play an A Minor sample over an F Major beat, the notes will clash and sound completely out of tune. You must pitch-shift one of the samples so they share the same key.
Can I check vocal acapellas?
Yes! Acapellas are notoriously hard to match to a beat. This tool will tell you the exact BPM and key of the acapella so you can confidently build a track around it.
