What is harmonic mixing?
Harmonic mixing is a technique used by professional DJs to create seamless, magical transitions between songs. If you mix two songs together and they are in completely different musical keys, the melodies will clash and it will sound terrible on the dancefloor.
The harmonic mixing wheel, also known as the Camelot wheel, organizes every musical key into a simple circle. By following the numbers on the wheel, you can easily figure out which songs will blend perfectly together.
How to use the Camelot wheel
First, you need to know the key of the song currently playing. Let's say your current track is in 8A (A Minor). Look at the wheel to find 8A.
To guarantee a perfect mix, you should choose your next track from one of the adjacent numbers on the wheel. This means you can safely mix into 7A, 9A, or move to the inner circle and play an 8B track. As long as you only move one step at a time, your set will sound incredibly smooth and professional.

Can I jump across the wheel?
Jumping across the wheel means mixing two songs that share almost no musical notes. It will sound incredibly harsh and dissonant. You should only ever move one step adjacent on the wheel.
What does the inner and outer circle mean?
The outer circle contains Major keys, and the inner circle contains Minor keys. Moving from 8A to 8B means you are changing the mood from Minor to Major while staying in a related key.
