Why convert audio to MIDI?
If you have an old recording of a piano riff or you found an amazing guitar loop online, you usually cannot change the notes or swap the instrument. Audio is permanent. But if you convert that audio into MIDI, you suddenly have total control.
You can change the piano into a massive synthesizer, fix any wrong notes, or easily figure out exactly what chords the original musician was playing. It completely opens up the creative possibilities of any sample.
How the converter works
Upload your audio file, like a guitar solo or a synth line. Our artificial intelligence analyzes the frequency and timing of every single note in the recording. It then translates those notes into MIDI data.
Once the processing finishes, you can download the .mid file and drag it directly into your music software. Keep in mind that this works best on clean, single-instrument recordings. If you upload a full song with drums and vocals, the MIDI file will be a confusing mess.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this extract chords or just single notes?
Our polyphonic engine can detect multiple notes at once, so it will extract full chords, not just single monophonic melodies.
Why does the MIDI file have weird sliding notes?
If you upload a recording with a lot of vocal bending, guitar vibrato, or sliding, the AI tries to capture those pitch changes by placing lots of tiny, rapid MIDI notes. You might need to clean those up manually in your DAW.
Can I convert a full mixed song into MIDI?
You can try, but the result will be very messy. The AI struggles to separate a loud kick drum from a bassline and a vocal at the same time. It works infinitely better on solo instruments.
